Analysis on Combining Ability of Yield Characters and Related Characters in Three-line Indica Hybrid Rice

Nine parents of three-line indica rice,including 5 sterile lines and 4 restoring lines,were chosen to analyze the combining ability of 14 yield characters and related characters by the way of p×q incomplete diallele cross(NCⅡ)design. The results showed:(1)both general combining ability(GCA)and specific combining ability(SCA) of all the characters tested were highly significant level;the additive variation was principal for the characters of days to initial heading(DIH),plant height(PH),spikelets per panicle(SPP),density of spikelet setting(DSS),grass weight of single plant(GWSP),ratio of grain via grass(RGG),biological yield of single plant(BYSP),while the non additive variation was greater for the characters of effective panicle(EP),seed-setting rate(SSR),1000-grain weight(1000GW);(2)most characters were more greatly influenced by restorer line than by sterile line,there was a relatively greater effect of sterile line on 1000-grain weight(1000GW);(3)the yield characters and related characters of GCA and SCA were greater for Jin 23A,Zhong 9A in sterile line and R121,R120 in restoring lines;(4)effects of various characters on the GCA and SCA were not significantly related to each other,which suggested that it is essential to pay attention to improvement of the parent characters.
