Effects of Bidens pilosa Linn Extract on Proliferation and Cell Cycle in Hela and A549 Cells

Objective To investigate the effects of Bidens pilosa Linn. extract (BPE) on proliferation and cell cycle of Hela and A549 cells.Methods MTT was used to study the inhibition effect of BPE on the growth of Hela and A549 cells,based on which IC50 values were determined.The effect of BPE (10 μg/mL) on the apoptosis of Hela and A549 cells was tested by Hochest33342 staining and the percentage of apoptotic cells and changes in cell cycle were detected by flow cytometry.Results BPE inhibited the proliferation of Hela and A549 cells in vitro in a dose-dependent manner,with IC50 values as 10.34 and 8.31 μg/mL,respectively. BPE was testified to induce apoptosis of Hela and A549 cells and to block these cells in G0/G1 phase by Hochest staining and flow cytometry.Conclusion Hela and A549 cells were arrested in G0/G1 phase by BPE,which induced the increase of apoptotic cells and the decrease of proliferating cells.
