Effect of Traditional Chinese Medicine on Excitatory Neurotransmitter

In order to study the inhibitory effect of traditional Chinese medifcine on the release of glutamic transmitter thereby to prove its antagonistic effect on neurotoxicity of glutamicacid,brains of 30 rats were used in this experiment,The brain was taken immediately aftersacrifice of the animal and its different portions(cerebral cortex,cerebeuum,hippocampusand corpus striatum)were subdivided into several parts to beeultured in vitro Effective in -gredients of the Chinese medicine were added into the cultures respectively to observe the in-hibitory effect on release of glutamic transmitter due to depolarizing reagent K+ and to makequantitative analysis of the inhibitory effects. The results showed that helicid Hel,Baical,a-Asarone,Hyperin and Ursolic acid inhibited the release of glutamic transmitter,but Sinome-nine showed reverse effect.
