On Educational Understanding

Educational understanding refers to teachers' and students' practice of continuously planning and realizing the possibility of their lives concerning feelings, cognition and behaviors in the process of dialogue with educational con text. Such practice is characterized by its instrument nature, clear purpose, pursuit of truth, kind orientation and its stress on such aspects as occupation, transcendence, emotion, wisdom, theory and practice. The consensus-targeted dia logue between teachers, students and educational context results in the formation mechanism of educational understanding. Educational context consists of cultural context (both natural and humanistic aspects) and interpersonal context (both oneself and others). The correctness (natural context) and the consensus (humanistic context) serve as the criteria for determining the understanding of cultural context, while the practical acceptance is adopted as the standard for judging the understanding of interpersonal context. The success of dialogue relies on some conditions: the listeners should have the character of attentive listening, sensitive comprehension of language and strong capacity of understanding, and the speaker must be good at persuading and integrating fairness and reasonability. Educational understanding adheres to the value orientation of the planning and realization of both teachers' and students' life possibility and aims at improving educa tional quality through overcoming misunderstanding and strengthening understanding.
