Experimental Study on the AE Characteristics of Concrete Beams

Chen Bing Zhang Dong Wu Keru (State Key Laboratory of Concrete Material Research, Tongji University, Shanghai, 200092)  
In this research, the AE characteristics of three point bending concrete beams with diffe rent relative notch depth was investigated during the entire loading period. It is found that the relative notch depth affects the AE characteristics significantly, with increasing relative notch depth the occurrence of AE events decreases remarkably. Weibull function is adopted to analyze the influence of relative notch depth on the AE characteristics, fracture characteristics and brittleness of concrete quantitatively. It is also revealed that two parameters, θ and m have special meanings, θ characterizes the brittleness of specimen caused by geometry of the specimen and m characterizes the brittleness of the concrete material.
