Experimental Study on Behavior of Composite Steel Plate Yielding Energy Dissipators and Its Effectiveness on Absorbing Seismic Vibration of Steel Tall Buildings

Based on analyzing the advantages and shortcomings, especially the membrane effects, of X steel plate yielding energy dissipator (XSEDOR), and combined with the mechanism characteristics of Pall frictional energy dissipator, a composite steel plate yielding energy dissipator (CSEDOR) has been developed. Then the hysteretic behavior of CSEDOR has been tested. The behavior tests show that the properties of CSEDOR are similar to those of the XSEDOR with its membrane effects eliminated. Finally, the earthquake similation tests of a 16- story structure with CSEDORs, with ordinary bracings, and without bracings respectively are described. The earthquake similation test results show that CSEDORs have good vibration absorption effects.
