Integral lift design of the main trusses in Macao Gymnasium and analysis of the latticed hoist tower

The integral lift design of the main trusses of steel roof in Macao Gymnasium and the analysis of their latticed hoist tower are presented in this paper. Some key technical problems are outlined and analyzed. The corresponding measures taken to solve these problems are proposed. First, the structural form and analysis method of overall stability load carrying capacity of the latticed hoist tower are decided. Then a unified design approach is proposed for checking the overall stability of all possible latticed hoist tower schemes. Based on the ANSYS finite element program, the continuous check of the modulation of deformation and stress distribution in the main truss during the lifting process is monitored and traced, thus to ascertain which lift method is feasible to apply to construction. The stresses and deformation obtained from the FE model are compared with the measured results, and a good agreement is obtained. Through this engineering project, some experiences and data in lift technology are accumulated and they may be employed in the construction of similar steel structures.
