Experimental study on seismic performance of steel double-beams column exterior joints in antique style building

In order to study the seismic behavior of double-beams column exterior joints in antique style building,four specimens in 1 /2 scale of prototype model were tested under low-cycle reversed loading. The failure process and patterns were obtained. The failure characteristics,mechanical behavior such as the load-displacement hysteretic loops,bearing and deformation capacity, degradation of rigidity, energy dissipation capacity of the joints were analyzed. It is shown that there are three small core zones( upper,middle and lower core zone) appeared in the steel double-beams column joint in antique style building,during loading. The main deformation occurs in the lower core zone,while the middle core zone and the upper core zone were still in the elastic stage. As to the different kinds of beam section,joints have different failure mode. Deformation like "X " in the lower core zone or weld fractured between the top box section columns and inner-ring plate appears when the box section beam joints are destroyed ultimately. But weld between the top flange of Lan'e and the column fractures when the H-shape section beam joint has failed. The displacement ductility factor of the story drift is between 1. 98 and 3. 61,and the equivalent viscous damping coefficient is about 0. 227 to 0. 387. With axial compression ratio of column increased from 0. 3 to 0. 6,the load carrying capacity is decreased.
