Studies on the Behaviors of Beam-to-Column Connections with Beam-End Flange Haunch

According to the strong column weak beam principles of anti-seismic design of steel frames,and based on the idea of making plastic hinges of beams away from connection area,the nonlinear finite element analysis of beam-to-column connections with flange haunch of beams is conducted.The elastic-plastic behaviors and the distributions of plastic area are analyzed detailedly with different haunches' length and width.The reasonable design methods and scope of these parameters are obtained.It is shown that the design concept of the connection is theoretically feasible and practical in application to make the plastic hinge away from the connection.
