Houtaiping Cemetery of the Bronze Age in Shuangliao City,Jilin

Jilin Provincial Institute of Cultural Relics and Archaeology et al.
In 2007,the Houtaiping cemetery in Shuangliao City,Jilin Province was explored through a salvage excavation, which brought to light 37 earthen-pit tombs of the Bronze Age. The graves measure only above 2 m for the smaller pits and more than 5 m for the larger ones, contain no coffins but have second-tier platforms in some cases. They are largely collective secondary burials. The unearthed objects total over 1,000 pieces, including pottery, stone implements, bronzes, bone articles and antler artifacts, with the first group showing the most distinct features. Chronologically the tombs go back to the Western Zhou through the Spring-and-Autumn period. The excavation furnished important archaeological material to the study of the Bronze Age culture in the Liaohe River valley.
