GEOLOGICAL CHARACTERISTICS AND GENESIS OF THEALTERED ROCK TYPE GOLD DEPOSIT IN KANGGULMYLONITE ZONE, XINJIANG

The Kanggul gold deposit has rather unique metallogenic characteristics. Itasurs in a second-order shear zone within a large-size ductile shear zone onthe northern margin of the Carboniferous island arc volcanic area. Orebodies,hosted by altered phyllonite and mylonitized volcanic rocks, are parallel to thesteep-dipping mylonite zone, and tho wall rock alterations include silicification,sericitization, chloritization and pyritization. Geoloocrical-geochemical studiesshow that the ore deposit is a product of polyphase and polystage evolution,with the ore materials derived from the depth of the crust or from andesiticvolcanic rocks. During ductile deformiation and metamorphism after MiddleCarboniferous, metamorphic hydrothermal activities led to the mobilization ofgold and initial crystallization of auriferous pyrite. At the late Variscan period,the uplifting of the crust caused ductile-brittle deformation of the shear zoneand the simultaneous emplacement of granitic magma; under the action of“mixed”hydrothermal solutions consisting of metamorphic water, meteoricwater and magmatic water, gold was concentrated in the shear zone, formingthe gold deposit.
