Observation of ovary anatomy and impact oogenesis on adult nutrition in female Liriomyza sativae(Diptera:Agromyzidae)

Host-plant and non-host plant( e. g. nectar and pollen) can prolong longevity and promote oogenesis of emerged female adults in synovigenic herbivores. To understand the difference in the oogenesis function of host plant and non-host plant to Liriomyza sativae,basing on ovary development and anatomy,the oogenesis dynamic of female adults,providing respectively with water( control),leaves +water,20% glucose solution,leaves + 20% glucose solution,were compared in this experiment. The results showed that L. sativae was extremely synovigenic and oocytes were not found in the ovaries of newly emerged female adults. Total ovariole numbers were 11-18 parallel ovarioles. In most cases,left and right ovariole numbers were unequal to female adults. In the condition of starvation,female adults can not almost form mature eggs. Oogenesis and oocytes maturation of female adults continuing to be provided with host leaves,20% glucose solution,host leaves + 20% glucose solution were significantly improved. But providing with glucose solution can extremely significantly accelerate the oogenesis andoocytes maturation. In addition,all of the eggs in female adults were not reabsorbed. From the point of synovigeny,this study concentrated on discussing the nutrient function of feeding on host plant and nonhost plant in L. sativae. The results provide a basis for mass-rearing indoors and in the field of ecological regulation of L. sativae and such herbivores.
