Synthesizing Methyl Formate by Methanol Carbonylation Using DMF Promoter

The functions of Dimethylformamide (DMF) in preparing Methyl formate (MF) from methanol and Carbon monoxide (CO) in the presence of an alkali metal methoxide, Sodium methoxide as catalyst and DMF as promoter are studied. The experimental results show that DMF can enhance the activity of Sodium methoxide by 50% and extend the life of catalyst to prepare MF at 3.8~4.3 MPa of system pressure in batch reactor. The technology condition of preparing MF is listed and the promoting reaction mechanism of DMF is discussed.
