A Method to Measure the Additive Constant of the Photoelectric Distance Meter without Using the Baseline

In order to guarantee the accuracy of surveying instruments, the additive constants of them should be examined periodically during they are used. In the paper, a simple and effective method to measure the additive constant of the photoelectric distance meter is described, in which the standard surveying baseline need not be used and the additive constant of the photoelectric distance meter could be measured accurately through making the three-stage measurement for four times on a flat ground. The method eliminates the effect of periodic error and pointing error and is proved to be simple in measurement operation and suitable for field inspection.
