Oil and gas resources are very rich on the southernperiphery of Junggar Basin. The Middle, Lower Jurassiccoal stratum in the depression on the soathern peripheryis the main hydrocarbon source rock. Paleogene Anjihai-he Fm. and Lower Cretaceous are another important setof hydrocarbon source rock, which constitutes a com-pound hydrocarbon source area with the Jurassic hydro-carbon source rock. Based on the properties of hydrocar-bon source rock and the features of heat evolution, it isestimated that Hutubi-Manasi zone in the eastern part ofthe southern periphery area is a hydrocarbon abundancezone in the gas state and Anjihai-Dushanzi zone in thewestern part of the southern periphery area is a hydro-carbon abundance zone in the liquid state. Based onmultiple sources, multiple stages in migration and com-plexity of reservoir formation in the southern periphery, natural gas migraed in an obvious vertical way. Faultsplayed an important role in controlling formation of oiland gas reservoir.Oil and gas abundance zone is locatedunder the cap layer of the Anjihaihe Fm.. The second andthrid arrays of structure are the main areas for generationof large and medium-size oil and gas fields.
