Functions of Nb,V and Ti in Micro-alloyed Steel

The functions of micro-alloying elements Nb,V and Ti in steel are mainly manifested in the facts that during hot processing,deforming recrystallization of austenite is inhibited and its grains are stopped from growing,and precipitate as a result of strain induction by their carbonitrides,thus strengthening the steel by precipitation. Although these three elements enhance the strength by grain refinement and precipitation strengthening,yet their functioning mechanism and strengthening degree in steel differ;Nb has the most effective grain refining strengthening effect,V has the strongest precipitation strengthening effect,while Ti stands between Nb and V.
