A STUDY ON THE PREPARATION OF CHROMIA PILLARED MONTMORILLONITE

Chromia pillared montmorillonite was prepared using bentonites from Zhejiang Province and Xinjiang Uygar Autonomous Region as starting materials. Pillaring agent solutions were preparing by hydrolyzing chromium salt solutions using Na2CO3 as the source of base. The polyox-ochromium cations were introduced into moritmorillonite through a cation-exchange process and the products obtained were characterized by XRD BET N2 surface area measurements and chemical analyses. The chromia pillared montmorillonite obtained has a basal spacing of 2. 55 nm and a BET N, specific surface of 190-230 m2/g.
