The basic physicochemical properties and the Pb~(2+),Co~(2+) ions adsorption capability of Ca-bentonite at the Santai of Sichuan Province are studied.The basic physicochemical properties include chemical composition, the cationic exchange capacity, density, specific surface area, pore diameter, osmosis coefficient and so on .The optimum acid activation conditions for bentonite is treated with the sulphuric acid(15%)activation for 4 hours at 96℃.According to the adsorption experiments on the heavy metal ions(Pb~(2+),Co~(2+)),bentonite adsorbs the heavy metal ions mostly in 20 minutes and the adsorption of Pb~(2+) ion is better than that of Co~(2+) ion.
