Study of the Stress Concentration on the Ply Splice Region of Composites

The changing regularity of the deformation and compliance of resin matrix composites with the fiber orientation has been discussed.Finite element(FE) analysis is used for modeling of the composites with ply splice.The mechanical property of composite plate is investigated by the FE analysis.The modeling results show that the deformation of the splice region is complex and the stress concentration is obvious.According to the FE data,the relationship is set up between maximum stress and ply angle.The expression for computing the maximum stress is obtained by the introduction of stress concentration coefficient.
