Studies on the Anti-tumor Activity of Polysaccharide From Gynostemma pentaphyllum and Its Mechanism

The model of mice transplanted S180 sarcoma was used to study the anti-tumor activity of polysaccharide from Gynostemma pentaphyllum in vivo.The inhibitory effect of polysaccharide on tumor cells proliferation was assayed by MTT method.Furthermore,the mouse macrophages were stimulated by polysaccharide from Gynostemma pentaphyllum.Phagocytosis of macrophages and NO generation were measured by spectrophotometric assay.IL—1β and TNF—α in the culture supernatants were detected by ELISA assay.The polysaccharide from Gynostemma pentaphyllum inhibited the development of transplanted tumor in mice in a dose—dependent manner and stimulated the increases of phagocytosis and productions of NO,IL—1β and TNF—α in peritoneal macrophages.These results might be helpful in developing a novel antitumor agent.
