Classification and Distribution of Alpine Wetland of Damqu River Basin in the Source Region of the Yangze River

The alpine wetland information of Damqu River Basin in the source region of the Yangze River was extracted from TM images by the method of object-oriented classification on the basis of several field surveys during 2008-2010.The structure characteristics and spatial distribution pattern of the wetland in the study area were analyzed.The wetland classification system that can be applied in the river source region distributed in high altitudes was built up.The results showed that the wetlands in the Damqu River Basin can be subdivided into 8 types,with the area of 8 548.03 km2,occupying 51.07% of the total drainage area.The area of palustrine was the largest followed by the riverine and lacustrine.Among all the wetland types,the areas of Car? ex-Kobresia swamp and Kobresia swampy meadow were larger than those of other wetland types,occupying 43.20% and 38.25% of the total area of the wetlands respectively.The wetlands are mainly distributed in the area with superior catchment condition(slope is less than 12°),including the eastern flat intermountain basin,southern melt water joint zone located in the northern fringe of Tanglha Mountain and the saddle of the mountains.There are few wetlands in the northern part of both the river basin and the trunk stream of Damqu River.The wetlands mainly distribute in the altitude range of 4 700-5 000 m.
