Ethical Issues in Big Data Technology

This article explores ethical issues in the innovation,research and development,and application of big data technology.It points out that being a double-edged sword,the innovation of big data technology would bring huge benefits to individuals of hundreds of millions,enterprises and the society at large;at the same time,it may cause potential risks.It requires us to identify risks and balance between benefits and risk caused by the innovation.It also discusses ethical issues such as digital identity,privacy,accessibility,safety and security,digital divide,etc.,which are related to information and communication technologies and big data technology,as well as their solving approaches.Finally,it introduces the concept of ethical governance and claims that the successful application of big data requires developing an ethical framework for evaluating the actions we may take in the area of big data,that is,ethical principles,which will form an ethical foundation for developing codes of conduct,regulations and legislations.
