A Preliminary Study of Mineral Characteristics of Multicyclic Red Soils in Yingfengling Section in Leizhou Peninsula

On the basis of geological surveys and measurement of field section,the mineral characteristics of the multicyclic red soil volcanic rock sequences were systematically studied at Yingfengling Ridge of Leizhou Peninsula,Guangdong Province by X ray diffraction The section contains 4 layers of red soils,the weathering eluvium of basalt or basaltic pyroclastic rocks.From bottom to top of the section, the mineral assemblages and the crystallinity are variant,for example,the first layer of red soil consist of montmorillonite(about 84.3%),but the second layer,the third layer and the fourth layer are mainly composed of kaolinite,the content of which is 67.3%, 77.8% and 86.0% respectively and the crystallinity is increscent progressively,reflecting the variations of the weathering time,lateritization process and paleo environment.
