Preparation of Nanostructural Alumina Fiber by Sol-gel Techniques

The nanostructural alumina fibers successfully prepared starting with lactic acid and aluminium nitrate by sol-gel techniques, can be less than 1 μm in diameter and consists of nanometer particles. After studying the factors infecting the spinnability of gel precursors and the whole process of thermal decomposition, a primary technical conditions for preparing nanostructural alumina fibers has been obtained. Also the morphologies,composition of physical phase and structure of gel precursors fibers and nanostructural alumina fibers derived from the thermal decomposition of the gel precursor fiber have been studied by scanning electron microscopy(SEM), X-ray diffraction(XRD) and Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy(FTIP). The results show that uniform and compact nanostructual alumina fibers can be continuously prepared by sol-gel techniques.
