Diagnostic Significance of Interferon Gamma Concentration,Adenosinase Deaminase Activity in Tuberculous and Nontuberculous Pleural Effusions

Objective To evaluate the clinical usefulness of interferon-gamma and adenosine deaminase in differentiating diagnosis of tuberculous from nontuberculous pleural effusions.Methods The IFN-γconcentration and ADA activity of 88 cases of tuberculous and nontuberculous pleural effusions were determined by ELISA and enzyme kinetic analytical method respectively.30 cases of control group were also studied.Results The IFN-γconcentration in the tuberculous pleural effusion group was(497.13±200.79)ng/L,which was significantly higher than that in the malignant group(72.16±78.58)ng/L,P0.001).The ADA level(54.45±15.33)U/L in the tuberculous pleural effusion group was significantly higher than that in the malignant group(18.67±16.54)U/L,P0.001.Conclusions The results indicated that simultaneous measurement of IFN-γ concentration and ADA activity in pleural effusions is a useful diagnostic method for differentiating tuberculous pleurisy from nontuberculous pleurisy.
