Test for adenosine deaminase for diagnosing tubercular pleural effusions

Objective To compare ADA in tubercular pleural effusions and non-tubercular pleural effusions,and to observe ADA activity and diagnosing positive rate in tubercular pleural effusion in different age groups.Methods The study analyzed ADA activity in 80 subjects who were diagnosed tubercular pleuritis and 48 subjects who suffered non-tubercular pleural effusions.80 subjects suffered tuberculosis were divided into two groups by age of 60 (above or below).ADA activity and diagnosing positive rate were compared between the groups.Results ADA in the tubercular pleural effusions was higher than in the non-tubercular pleural effusions.There was no difference for ADA and positive rate in the two groups.Conclusion ADA in pleural effusions is helpful in diagnosing tubercular pleural effusions.
