A study of the relationship between negative emotion and patients with type 2 diabetes

Objective:To explore the relationship between negative emotion and patients with type 2 diabetes. Method:51 patients with type 2 diabetes and 50 normal controls were assessed with life events scale(LES),social support rating scale(SSRS),symptom checklist 90(SCL-90),self-rating depression scale(SDS) and self-rating anxiety scale(SAS). Results:The negative stimulative score and total stimulative score of LES were significantly higher(all P0.01),while the total score of social support,subjective support score and availability score of SSRS lower in diabetes group when compared with those in control group(all P0.01).The total scores of SCL-90 and six factor scores such as somatozation,interpersonal sensitivity,depression,anxiety,hostility,horror and SDS,SAS scores were obviously higher in diabetes group than that in control group(P0.05 or P0.01). Conclusion:The patients with type 2 diabetes have significant negative emotion.Purposefully psychological intervention can play an important role in the prevention and treatment of type 2 diabetes.
