To establish the photoelastic model of mandibular unilateral distal-extension edentulous restored by the cantilever fixed bridge

Objective:To establish the Photoelastic Model of the abutment and periodontal tissue of mandibular unilateral distal-extension edentulous restored by cantilever fixed bridge.Method:According to principles of similarity,different materials were used to manufacture the photoelastic model that the seventh and the eighth were missing,the fourth,the fifth,the sixth tooth were chosen as abutments in D zone,which included teeth,alveolar bone and pericementum membrane.Results:The photoelastic model manufactured is smooth,uniform and transparent.The thickness of pericementum membrane is 0.251~0.297mm.The proportion is 1.35∶1∶0.00030 among elastic modulus of different materials to make the model.Conclusion:The thickness of pericementum membrane which manufactured by this method consistent with the physiological request.The proportion of elastic modulus of the different tissue is imitated completely by this method.The photoelastic model can be applied in qualitative analysis of the stress distribution in the alveolar bone of the abutment tooth in distal-extension edentulous restored by the cantilever fixed bridge.
