MMP-9 Relative to Hemorrhagic Transformation of Cerebral Infarction and Its Research Progress

Matrix metalloproteinases are a major group of enzymes that regulate cell-matrix composition. They are essential for pathological processes including artherosclerosis,tumor migration,imflammation and so on.MMP-9 plays a key role in cerebral vascular diseases.It can degrade the laminin and fibronectin which are the major components of the basal lamina,then break down the blood-brain barrier which is high permeability. It shows that MMP-9 is relevant to edema and hemorrhagic transformation of cerebral infarction.Its functional mechanism in cerebral infarction turns it into a target for therapy of acute ischemic stroke.
