Alexithymia and its relationships with psychiatric symptoms of schizophrenicsv

Objective To explore alexithymia and its correlation with psychiatric symptoms of schizophrenics.Methods 61 schizophrenics were assigned as research group and 63 randomly selected healthy volunteers as control group,evaluations conducted with the Toronto Alexithymia Scale(TAS-20)and the Positive and Negative Syndrome Scale(PANSS).Results Of the TAS-20 factor III score was significantly higher(P0.05)and total and the other factor score were very(P0.01)in the research than in the control group.In the research group,the total and factor I score of the TAS-20 was positively related to the total and hallucination score of the PANSS(P0.05 or 0.01)and not signifcantly to the score of the SANS.Conclusion Schizophrenics have an alexithymia which is related to some positive symptoms and has major heterogeneity.
