Inhibitory effects of gynostemma pentaphyllum on lipid peroxidation reaction in rats liver

AIM: To observe inhibitory effects of gynostemma pentaphyllum (GP) on liver lipid peroxidation caused by carbon tetrachloride (CCl 4). METHODS: Wistar rats were randomly divided into 4 groups: A (control); B (CCl 4); C (GP); D (CCl 4+GP). RESULTS: The content of lipid peroxide (LPO) increased and the vitality of glutathione peroxidase (GSH Px) decreased in CCl 4 group compared with the control group. The lipid peroxidation caused by CCl 4 was inhibited by administering GP simultaneously. CONCLUSION: The results indicate that GP could decrease liver injury induced by CCl 4.
