Anti-aging effect of microemulsion containing Panax notoginseng on skin

AIM To investigate the anti-aging effect of Panax notoginseng microemulsion on skin.METHODS The aging mice model was established by subcutaneous administration with a dose of D-galactose(1 000 mg·kg-1·d-1)to female mice for 6 wk,at the same time,the skin of back of mice were shaved topically and applied with microemulsion.After 42 d,the SOD activity,the malondialdehyde(MDA) and hydroxyproline contents in skin were determined.Meanwhile,histochemical standards relating to aging were measured and morphologic alterations of surplus dorsal skin were observed under microsecope and analyzed.RESULTS In contrast with the preparation group(848.29±123.57)μm,control group showed that the thickness of dermis(594.11±156.96)μm was significantly reduced(P0.01),and the content of elastic fibers was increased(P0.01) and accumulated and tangled.The activity of SOD(21.05±0.65) U·mg-1 and content of hydroproline(18.9±2.01)mg·g-1 were significantly decreased compared with control group [SOD(14.51±1.8)U·mg-1,hydroproline(15.47±1.62)mg·g-1]and blank group [SOD(18.60±1.92)U·mg-1,hydroproline(16.4±1.73)mg·g-1],whereas the content of MDA was significantly increased.CONCLUSION Microemulsion containing Panax notoginseng has obvious anti-aging effects on aging mice's skin.
