Determination of icariin in Herba Epimedium by reversed-phase high performance liquid chromatography

AIM To establish a reversed-phase high performance liquid chromatography method for the determination of icariin in Herba Epimedium.METHODS The analysis was performed on ZORBAX Ecilpse XDB-C_(18)(150 mm×4.6mm,5μm) column.The mobile phase consisted of water:acetonitrile(74:26,V/V) at a flow rate of 1.0 mL·min~(-1) and the detection wavelength was 270 nm.The solution concentrations were detected by HPLC with the column temperature of 25℃.RESULTS Under the conditions described,the calibration curve of icariin was linear within the concentration range of 5-50mg·L~(-1)(r=0.9999,n=5).The average recovery was 100.32%.The mean relative standard deviation(RSD) was 0.44%.CONCLUSION The method is simple,accurate and suitable for the determination of icariin in Herba Epimedium.
