The Role of Competition in Coexistence among Species

XIAN Dong-ya(College of Nature Reserves,Beijing Forestry University,Beijing 100083 China)  
Searching for the inherent mechanism of the coexistence among species has always been the focus of biodiversity study.Therefore,a lot of theories or hypotheses about it have been proposed.It is found that most of theories about species coexistence have close relationships with competition theory.In order to reveal the roles of competition in coexistence among species,the connotation and essence of competition and disputes on competition theory,the paper analyzes the new species coexistence theory and hypothesis with traditional competition theory and objectively evaluates the role of competition in coexistence among species.
