Tagore's Philosophy of Universal Love—Tagore and China

MAO Shi-chang (School of Foreign Languages,Lanzhou University,Lanzhou 730000,China )
Tagore showed his deep sympathy to Chinese people by writing the Death Traffic at the age of only twenty. His China visit in 1924 reopened the closing-up path of Sino-Indian exchanges. He established in Visva-Bharati the Cheeni-Bhavan which was the first Chinese Studies Centre in the world. He made the Modern Hieun Tsang—Tan Yunshan. He supported firmly Anti-Japanese War of Chinese people scathingly denouncing shameless conduct of Yone Noguchi,a Japanese literati who spoke in defense of Japanese aggression. All these originated from his philosophy of universal love which is the the idealogical root of his love of China and also the idealogical basis of generation-to-generation Sino-Indian friendship.
