Formation of the Folk Religion in Tibet and Its Influence on the Tibetan Society:An Investigation of the 5~(th)-6~(th) Century Tibetan Folk Literature in Tanchang

Bon,the origin of Tibetan culture,shaped the indigenous traditions on the Tsinghai-Tibet Plateau. The Bon literature is a splendid legacy passed down by the ancient Tibetans.The family-stored Bon literature in Tanchang of Gansu province is of cardinal importance in recognizing Tibetans and their civilization,and it is particularly valuable in studying their thoughts,philosophy,religion,science,and technology before the 5~(th)-6~(th) centuries.This article explores the origin of Bon,its blending with Buddhism and adaptation by examining the above literature and evaluating the findings of the project.
