Analysis on the effect of permafrost protection by two-phase closed joint thermosyphon and insulation in permafrost regions

Using the finite element method, a three-dimensional numerical analysis of the temperature characteristics of the common embankment, the embankment with insulation, the embankment with two-phase closed thermosyphon, and the embankment with insulation and thermosyphon, has been performed in consideration of the case in which the air temperature will increase by 2.0 ℃ in the next 50 years. The numerical results indicate that the common embankment, the embankment with insulation and the embankment with two-phase closed thermosyphon will thaw the permafrost under those embankment and those embankments are thermally unstable in regions where the yearly average air temperature is -3.5 ℃, or the yearly average temperature on the natural ground is -1.0 ℃ considering the factor of climatic warming. However, the embankment with insulation and thermosyphon has virtues of insulation and thermosyphon, for the better protection of the permafrost.
