Direct electrochemistry and electrocatalysis of heme proteins immobilized on nano-alumina-gold nanoparticles assembly system

Three heme proteins, cytochrome c, myoglobin and hemoglobin were adsorbed on the nanoporous alumina (AAO) templates-gold nanoparticles (GNs) modified glassy carbon electrodes (GCE). UV-vis spectroscopy indicated that the proteins immobilized on AAO-GNs films retained near-native secondary structures. The fabricated procedures and electrochemical behaviors of proteins on such an interface were characterized with electrochemical impedance spectra and cyclic voltammetric techniques. It was demonstrated that the AAO-GNs films not only could offer a friendly environment to immobilize the protein molecules, but also enhance the electron transfer ability between protein molecules and the un- derlying electrodes. The effects of scan rate on the electrochemical behaviors of cytochrome c and the electrocatalytic response to the reduction of H_2O_2 were discussed in detail.
