Preparation and characterization of Atrazine molecularly imprinted polymer microspheres

Molecularly imprinted polymer(MIPs) nano-microspheres with a uniform particle size of 210 nm were prepared by using precipitation polymerization of methacrylic acid(MAA) as the functional monomer,ethylene glycol dimethacrylate(EDMA) as the crosslinking agent,azodiisobutyronitrile(AIBN) as the initiating agent and Atrazine as the template in acetonitrile.UV spectrometry was employed to demonstrate the mechanism of the interaction between Atrazine and MAA.It showed that the optimal proportion of Atrazine-MAA complexes was 1:4(mol ratio).Analysis of the Scatchard plot revealed that there were two kinds of binding sites in MIPs and their apparent maximum binding capacity(Q_(max)) and dissociation contents(K_d) were Q_(max 1) = 38.08μg/g, K_(d1) = 0.248 9μg/L for high affinity binding sites and Q_(max 2) = 310.33μg/g,K_(d2) = 6.626 9μg/L for low affinity binding sites respectively.The molecularly imprinted polymers synthesized with this method exhibited a good selective adsorption capacity for Atrazine.
