Preparation of a molecularly imprinted polymer of ofloxacin with combined functional monomers

Molecularly imprinted polymers(MIP) were prepared using ofloxacin as the template molecule, both methacrylic acid and 2-vinylpyridine as combined monomers and ethylene glycol dimethacrylate as a cross-linking agent. The equilibrium binding experiment and Scatchard model analysis were used to evaluate the molecular binding characteristics, and for recognition and selectivity of MIP materials. The MIP with double monomers was found to own larger adsorption amount for ofloxacin and a higher imprint factor(3.20 in 20 μg/mL ofloxacin solution) than the MIP prepared with a single monomer. The MIP with double monomers has two kinds of binding sites: high and low selective affinities. The affinity curves shows that the maximum adsorption capacities were 48 and 240 μmol/g, respectively for high and selective affinity sites. Finally, the MIP with double monomers was chosen as an adsorbent to concentrate and detect trace fluoroquinolones in milk samples combined with the HPLC analytical method and an ideal repeatability(RSD 5.0%) and satisfied recovery(93.72%~102.14%) were obtained.
