Geological Characteristics of Palygorskite Clay Minerals in Xining Basin

Palyorskite clay in Xining Basin exists in Diaogou Formation of Miocene, which consists of clay minerals(illite,palyorskite,chlorite,smectite etc),carbonate mine- rals(dolomite,calcite)and terrigenous detrital miherals(quartz,feldspar,mica).Oxygen and carbon isotopes of carbohate minerals which associated with clay minerals are δ~(18)O= (-6.2)-(-8.0)%(PDB)and δ~(13)C=(-3.2)-(-3.7)%(PDB)respectively.Palyorskite clay is formed in high salinity and alkalinity and semi-alkalinity.Most of palyorskite minerals are transformmed from dolomite in middle-late diagenesis.
