Study on the relationship between the plasm level of homocysteine and C-reaction protein(CRP) level and carotic intimal-medial

Objective To explore the relationship between the plasm level of homocysteine(Hcy) and C-reaction protein(CRP) level and carotic intimal-medial thickness(IMT) in type 2 diabetes(T2DM).Methods 62 patients with preliminary diagnosis of T2DM were divided into two groups according to IMT level :normal IMT group and IMT increased group.30 healthy people were chosen as control.All patients and control were measured with Hcy,CRP and total cholesterol(TC).Results Hcy and CRP levels in T2DM were higher than those in controls(P0.05).Hcy and CRP levels in group of increased IMT were higher than those in normal IMT group(P0.05).The positive correlation between Hcy,CRP levels and IMT was shown(P0.01),so was the correlation between Hcy levels and CRP levels(P0.05). Conclusions Hcy and CRP levels may predict the early stage of AS in T2DM clinically.Chronic inflammation may be the important molecular mechanisms of high Hcy levels causing effect on ASs formation.
