The adsorption kinetics and adsorption isotherm of Cr(Ⅲ) by crystalline-state or non crystalline-state chitosan were investigated. The results showed that non olystalline-state chitosan had a higher adsorption rate and a larger adsorption capacity than crystalline-state chitosan. Crystalline-state chitosan displayed a decrease of adsorption capacity with an increase of particle size, but the particle diameter of non Crystallinesstate chitosan did not greatly influence its adsolption capacity for Cr(Ⅲ). The presence of sodium or potassium canon had little effect on the adsorption of Cr(Ⅲ), but the presence of EDTA could significantly reduce the uptake of Cr(Ⅲ) by chitosan.
