Heavy crude oil wastewater was softened with D113 ion exchange resin to meet the water quality of steam boilers. Based on experimental results, macroporous ion exchange resin D113 was employed to apply for the pilot plant. During pilot plant running for two mouths, the hardness of effluent was examined to zero but the mean hardness of influent was 170 mg/L. After regeneration by acid and transition of ion type by alkali, macroporous ion exchange resin could be used to resist organic pollution load efficiently, and reused to soften organic wastewater of high concentration and temperature.
