Study on levels of interleukin-2 and soluble interleukin-2 receptor in serum and cerebrospinal fluid of patients with Alzheimer's disease

Objective To investigate the etiology and pathogenesis of Alzheimer's disease(AD).Method The levels of interleukin 2(IL 2) and soluble interleukin 2 receptor (sIL 2R) in serum and cerebrospinal fluid(CSF) were examined respectively by double antibody enzyme linked immunosorbent assay(ELISA) in patients with AD.Results (1)The positive rate of sIL 2R in CSF in AD group was significantly higher than that in vascular dementia(VD) and healthy control groups(P0.05).(2)The concentrations of IL 2 and sIL 2R in both serum and CSF in AD group were significantly higher than those in VD and healthy control groups(P0.05 or P0.01).(3)The concentration of IL 2 was positively correlated with that of sIL 2R in serum and CSF and negatively correlated with MMSE scores in AD group.Conclusions IL 2 and sIL 2R in CSF of AD patients may come from peripheral immune system and may also come from self synthesis in central nervous system,so examining the levels of IL 2 and sIL 2R in CSF of AD patients can reflect the degree of pathological changes.
