Effects of nano-ZrO2 addition on sintering and thermal shock resistance of MgO-CaO refractories

MgO-CaO-ZrO2 refractories were prepared using ≤0.1 mm MgO-CaO clinker as main starting material and adding 2%,4%,6% and 8% nano-ZrO2,after dry-mixing,press moulding and firing at 1 600 ℃ for 3 h.The effects of ZrO2 additions on the sintering and thermal shock resistance of MgO-CaO refractories were investigated and the mechanism was discussed by XRD and SEM.The results showed that the sintering and thermal shock resistance of MgO-CaO refractories were obviously improved by adding 2% nano-ZrO2.The optimum addition of nano-ZrO2 was 6%.
