Study of correlationship between apolipoprotein E gene polymorphism and coronary heart disease in male and female

Objective To study the correlation-ship and clinical sense between apolipoproteinE (apoE) gene polymorphisms and coronary heart disease (CHD) in male and female. Methods By polymerise chain reaction (PCR)-restriction fragment length polymorphism (KFLP) methods. We determined apoE genotypes of 117 male CHD and 95 malenoal controls, accompanied with corresponding female groups. Results Five kinds of apoE genotypeshave been detected which are ε3/ε3, ε4/ε3, ε3/ε2, and ε4/ε4 seperately. ε4/ε3 and ε4 frequences have significant differences between male CHD and controls and female CHD. No differences are found between female CHD and controls and two control groups. Conclusions ApoE gene polymorphisms are important in male CHD; ε4/ε3 and ε4 have an important sense for CHD in male; ApoE ε4 may be a genetic factor of CHD in male.
