ADVANCES IN NANOMECHANICS

Several research thrusts in nanomechanics for solid state matters are reviewed in thispaper. The scope of nanomechanics is defined, and the methods are introduced. These methodsinclude nanoscopic computations (massive MD simulation, combined continuum/atomistic simu-lation, quasi-continuum simulation and LMPM) and nanoscopic experiments (nano-moire methodand nanoindentation). The emerging research areas in nanomechanics such as superplastic defor-mation of nano-crystalline materials, nanofracture, mechaincs for nanotubes and nanoindentationare briefiy described.
