OVERVIEW OF STUDIES ON NON-DESTRUCTIVE EVALUATION USING OPTICAL FIBER SENSOR EMBEDDED IN CONCRETE STRUCTURES

Zhao Zhanchao; Liu Haowu; Cai Desuo (Chendu Univcrsity of Science and Technology, Chendu 6l0065)
In this paper an analysis is presented on the use of embedded optical hber sensors in concrete elements and structures for the non-destructive meas- urement of internal stress and strahas well as fol the assessment of structural integrity,The fundamental properties of materials and micro-mechnical aspects regarding the fiber/matrix interaction are discussed,In addition,a summary of the experimental results obtained to date is made along with the prospective applications with respect to this new technology.
