A study on Bioligical Characteristic of Shorthorned Beetle

Oberrea ferruginea is a common boring beetle that mainly attacks Euonynlsjaponicus. The beetle completes its life cycle in one year in Hefei area. The beetle larva over-winters in limbs or stems and starts to pupate in the last ten days of April. Adults emerge inthe second ten days of May,then lay eggs in the first or second ten days of June. Larva startsto overwinter in the second ten days of October. Its occurrence is mainly influence by light.Femals lay their eggs at different locations due to the different level of tree vigour. The dam-age caused by the beetle is different in various positions of the tree. The major controlmethod is to prune branches ,but chemical control for the beetle is not effective.
